Friends of Fairfield - Droylsden

Please join the pottition and share, a local group needs help. think back to events we have held here and what this site has to offer and please help us out. To anyone else: scouts offers kids something to do other than hang around on your streets, it gives them purpose, skills for life and amazing experiences they wouldnt otherwise have. Please help us try and save this group and site. This is the best site we have in the district and it's used for a wide variety of district events to the benefit of the whole of North Tameside. It's loss would be felt by us all and that's without going into the environmental impact and the effect it would have on the Moravian settlement. If any of my scouty friends from Hazel Grove fancy showing your support it would be gratefully recieved! #Saveourscouts #saveoursettlement #saveourgreespace #friendsoffairfield https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=253079951909629&id=243379859546305 ... SOS:
A proposal has come to light that the Moravian Union Incorporated is exploring development options for an area of 3,41 acres located within the Fairfield Conservation Area.

This lies between Fairfield Road, Broadway North, Northway and Fairfield Square and the Canal. It includes the Scout Hut and adjacent grassed Area, Love Lane and woodland to the north and south of the Scout Hut. The area remains very much as it was when the settlement was first built in 1785 and has never been developed.

Young people attending scouts are able to enjoy one of the few remaining green spaces in the area. It is also used by other scouts in Tameside and by local schools.

The area is adjacent to the Ashton Canal which is a site of Biological Importance and the GMC Principle Ecologist says that the woodland qualifies as a priority habitat for conservation in Greater Manchester. The area is also in the least polluted category for air quality because of the surrounding trees.

We are sure that many of you have enjoyed walking in the area and would wish to continue to do so... WE THEREFORE NEED TO ACT NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE !

We are going to send a petition to the Moravian Union headquarters in London to let them know local feelings or you can e-mail your objection to:
office@moravian.org.uk

Once the planning application is lodged we shall need your support again in presenting our objections to the local authority.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER AND CAN SAVE OUR SCOUTS, OUR SETTLEMENT AND OUR WILDLIFE FOR THIS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS

We have just returned from our group camp, the theme this year was wet and wild, the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers took part in some great activities like Canoeing, mini raft building, fire lighting, shelter building, water slide. The list goes on! On Friday after arriving and putting the tents up everyone joined in with a wide game followed by bingo and supper, Saturday consisted of a full day of activities followed by a beach party bbq (on a field not a beach) then camp fire in the evening, on Sunday after the tents were packed, a visit to the shop and lunch we invested our newest Scout. Akela Dan from Gregory pack said "Every kid I spoke to was in agreement they want more water activities!" So it looks like next year we may have a more water based camp! Thanks to all who were activly involved in planning and running the camp including a couple of North Tameside Scout Active support unit members. We are looking at the possibility of installing a driveway from our main gate to the scout hut, this will hopefully help with car parking and loading equipment for camps, if anyone is able to give us a quote for it "or doing it for free" please contact us. ... See more
