Our Scout section meets every Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and is currently home to around 16 young people who enjoy a varied programme of activities, challenges and adventures.
The section is run by a dedicated team of volunteers: Alice, Darah, Jack, Jai, Mark, Mudder and Yasmin. Together we work to provide a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment where young people can develop confidence, make friends and learn new skills.
At 6th Ashton-under-Lyne Scouts, we believe that every young person is different. Rather than focusing on just one type of activity, we try to offer a wide range of opportunities throughout the year. One week we might be learning practical outdoor skills, another week taking part in team challenges, working towards badges, cooking, first aid or planning our next adventure.
One of the highlights of our year is Freezer Camp, held each February at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre near Sheffield. Despite the cold weather, it is always a fantastic weekend packed with outdoor activities, campfires, teamwork and plenty of fun. For many of our Scouts, Freezer Camp is the event they look forward to most each year.
When leader availability allows, we also run a week-long summer camp, usually within a couple of hours of the Hut. These camps give our Scouts the opportunity to develop independence, learn outdoor skills and take part in activities that simply aren’t possible during a normal meeting night.
There are also other weekend camps planned throughout the year, along with other District activity days and camps.
We encourage our Scouts to have a say in the programme and help shape the activities we run. Scouting is about trying new things, stepping outside your comfort zone and having fun along the way. Whether you’re interested in the outdoors, learning practical skills, meeting new people or simply taking on new challenges, there’s something for everyone.
We currently have spaces available in our Scout section and would be delighted to hear from young people looking to join us on their Scouting journey.
