6th Ashton Scouts ready for regional competition the Lord Derby c1993

Thanks to our ADC Cubs Gill who planned and organised our first district cubs Masterchef. Well done to all the cubs that took part and to 6th Ashton Gregory pack who took the win. Also thanks to all the cubs leaders that added some cooking time into the cubs program and for the time they have spent planning and practicing with the cubs. Unfortunately there is no date on this picture

Just started to read this, the first entry is from 1st March 1926 and the latest entry is new year 1930. Snippets and pictures will be posted as I read through the log book.

After months of effort and with a few hiccups along the way, the Scout Counties of Greater Manchester are able to share with you that the total raised from the sale of the Bee Badges is a staggering £64,170.41

Every penny of the proceeds will be donated towards creating a permanent and lasting memorial in Manchester, not only to remember the 22 people who sadly lost their lives but as a symbol of strength and unity of a city, a nation and in this case, the entire world.

We have had some pictures sent to us from an ex 6th Ashton Scout from the 1950s along whith this information -
"I started at the 6th Ashton in the Cubs in 1947, with Geoffrey Ford as Akela and a large girl as Baloo, his Assistant.
Moving up to the Scouts in 1951 the summer camp that year was an unforgettable week on 2 cabin cruisers on the Norfolk Broads. Shooting the rapids under the narrow bridge at Potter Heigham our boat rammed in ti the side of a splendid yacht, "The Lady Beryl" belonging to George Formby who was busy fending us off with a boat hook. Brothers John & Peter Lawler cheekily shouted out to him that they were his cousins. Thet apparently were as George Formby Senior came from Ashton.
Our Scoutmaster was Reg Kenworthy and the leader of the Senior Scouts was Tom Gregory who took ove the double bass from Reg in the Saints jazz band (well known round Manchester in the 50s)
Later summer camps were in Suffolk and Devon in 1956 and 1955, by this time I was Troop Leader. we travelled to these camps on the train with a trek cart laoded with 5 or 6 tents, latrine screens and cooking equipment. We had to drag the cart from the station to the camp site!
The first photo which you have already seen was 1952,There are some from summer camp in 1953 or 54 (Suffolk) - kit inspections and blind mans tracking game and a shot taken of us marching in the Ashton Whit Walks (probably 1955)"

Great day out with the whole group today at The Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford 1 picture is as we arrived the other is as we were leaving.

Justin Beaver has been found!! A big thank you to Caroline Seaton, Mark Singleton, and Kath at The Old Coach House Hotel in Blackpool.

Hopefully we will be reunited with him soon.

6th Ashtons Tuesday beaver mascot ‘Justin Beaver’ was taken on a trip over the weekend to Blackpool. He was put in a locker for safe keeping in the Sandcastle whilst our Beaver of the week went off swimming. We have rung the sandcastle. but Justin is no where to be seen! We are all very sad that Justin has gone awol and would really love to have him back where he belongs at 6th Ashton and would very much appreciate everyone sharing this post so that we can do our best to get him back #bringbackjustinbeaver ... Broadoak ESU Gorge Scrambling Weekend

This weekend was a busy one, both beaver sections attended a district activity camp at Abney Scout and guide centre in cheadle, the scouts also camped at Abney but not doing beaver activities they were training for next month's competition camp, both cub packs sent their Sixers and seconders to an activity day run by the district in droylsden on Sunday and some of the cubs joined the beavers and scouts at Abney. ... Had a fab time round Sheffield now just waiting for our last train.

Scouts off on their treasurer hunt - time to enjoy the sunshine.

Some impressive knifes in the Millennium Gallery and lovely tropical plants in the Winter Gardens.

Finally arrived! Just enjoying the sunshine while we wait for Flynn!

So after making our way to platform 7 for our train to Sheffield, there is an announcement to say it was now leaving from platform 11.

Once on the train there is another announcement to say due to faults on the line we are being diverted via Huddersfield.

We are still on the train at Moorthorpe and we should have been in Sheffield 20mins ago - estimated arrival is 10.50am. The kids arent bothered but don't think many pack lunches are still intact! ... See more
